When I was a child I used to think that womenfolk don’t get jailed and that they were not capable of doing something really bad or harming someone badly unless they had to defend themselves.
I have never seen or heard about a woman in our neighborhood being sentenced to jail. I do remember one young man who had been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexual abuse of a child, but then I heard this that child was already 22 years old and was studying far away from us.
I am not saying that the era when I grew was a good time. I am asking, “What is wrong with today? What is going on now around us that we feel so miserable because we can’t do any thing to stop it. To stop this injustice right now? Why are women getting arrested and jailed every week, every month? What for? What crimes have they committed?
In Iran women go to jail because they are not properly covered, or in Uzbekistan women go to jail because they cover up too much or report the truth about what they see happening in their country.
Like this woman: She is a mother of four, who has learned quickly, too quickly, that nowadays a woman can be put in jail very easily.
Do you know what Umida Niyazova is going through right now in prison? You don’t know? Me neither. I am afraid to guess. I think I’d rather not know.
